Our Story
About the Inn of the Tartan Fox
Historic Bed & Breakfast · Swanzey, New Hampshire
Our Beginning
The Historic Meadmere Manor — Swanzey, New Hampshire
The Inn of the Tartan Fox is a historic inn housed in the Meadmere Manor — a beautifully preserved New England home that has welcomed travelers for generations. Located just five miles from downtown Keene, NH at 350 Old Homestead Highway in Swanzey, the inn sits on 10.5 acres of meadow, garden, and woodland.
We chose the name ‘Tartan Fox’ to honor the Scottish heritage that inspires every corner of the inn — from the clan-named guest rooms to the warmth and character of our hospitality.
Each of our four rooms is named after a beloved character: Mac in the Manor Room, Angus in the Blackwatch Room, Gille in the Stewart Room, and Niall in the Terrace Room.
Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or a solo adventure, visiting from Keene, Peterborough, Brattleboro or further afield — we pour the same care and attention into every stay.
“We feel your stay with us begins before you get here. From the first email to the morning farewell, every moment at the Tartan Fox is crafted with care.”
— The Innkeepers, The Inn of the Tartan Fox
